Is it just me, or does recruiting in today’s world feel just like playing Wordle? Your first move is a complete shot in the dark. Sometimes you get it a little right, many times you are way off, or you can absolutely experience a complete swing and a miss.

Is “just having conversations” with candidates instead of having a “formal interview” really a brag-worthy approach in the long term?

For years, because it was so easy to recruit employees, many organizations lost sight of the importance of having a great culture and strong leaders; they just relied on their ability to fill jobs quickly and easily when necessary. Well, those days are clearly over!

Unless you are asking a candidate if they would like a bottle of water, you shouldn’t be asking any questions during an interview that can be answered with a simple yes or no.

Campfire questions are those cutesy little questions managers are asking candidates at this very moment that have no place in a job interview. The questions are sometimes thought-provoking, sometimes fun, and always perfect to ask when you are sitting around a campfire.
