New Competency: Enterprise Mindset

Do you struggle to find candidates that look beyond their own function when making decisions? Do your culture and business performance struggle because employees are not focused on making decisions that are in the best interest of the entire company?
We thought so!
And, you are not alone. When we heard from a new InterviewPath customer that they had a critical cultural transformation taking place, we jumped at the chance to help support their efforts. We validated the need for a new competency by talking with several existing customers and did the heavy lifting to create our 66th competency: Enterprise Mindset.
“Myers Industries has been undergoing significant organizational transformation to further enable and empower our aggressive growth strategies,” according to Mark Novotny, Head of Talent Acquisition. “We asked InterviewPath to create the ‘Enterprise Mindset’ competency, which we will immediately begin leveraging in our selection processes. We will now be able to tangibly assess whether individual contributors and leaders have the experience and capability to look beyond their department or business unit to align their functional goals and strategies to those of our broader organization. We are excited to partner with InterviewPath, which we’re confident will advance and accelerate our journey to ‘One Myers’.”
To support this new competency, we created 40 questions to provide interviewers with a wide variety of scenarios to explore with candidates. Questions like:
Give me an example of a time when your focus on the broader organization, and not just your own function, made a positive impact.
Tell me about a time when you advocated for an idea that was in the best interest of the company, and not your own area of responsibility. Why did you do this? What was the impact?
Give me an example of the unintended consequences of making a decision without consulting your co-workers ahead of time.
Give me an example of how you are able to consistently stay informed about how changes across the organization impact your area of responsibility.
